Bunsu House
Perched atop the mountainside, Bunsu House is a private family holiday home that lives by the modernist goals of simplicity through thoughtful reduction. The structure celebrates the natural surroundings of the site while still dotted with a number of unconventional design features.
A lone tree stands in front of a breeze block wall that conceals the home’s entryway; behind it, the exterior wall is made using bamboo formwork that creates a textural and soft quality to the concrete thus reducing its massiveness.
Bunsu House was designed with an open floor plan, yet moments of intimacy are still achieved within the home through the use of nooks and a variety of cozy exterior seating spaces. The layout allows every room a view of the mountains with floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors going around corners to provide panoramic views for its dwellers. While the front interior view gives the impression of a rather closed structure, in the rear part of the house, large panels of glass slide open, eliminating all barriers to the sight, sound, and smell of the mountainside.
